Calendar Girls: Shoot # 10 – August

You can’t beat a good read!

Introduction, a blog by Flash Gordon Photography

Shoot # 10. We have had such an awesome reception from every ‘location’ owner or sponsor and also anyone that we have spoken to about this project. Go and grab a calendar – they’re on sale now around Kerikeri. It’s a great way to support both our community and a very worthwhile cause.

Nearing the end now of the blog posts for the shoot of the Calendar for the Play ‘ Calendar Girls’, being put on by Stage Door Theatre Company this August. A donation from the proceeds of the sale of the calendar will go to NZ Child Cancer Foundation, and this is also a great way of celebrating the ladies in our community. Each month is sponsored by a local business and we thank them for their support. Most, but not all, of our models also appear in the Play.  The sponsor for this month is Molly’s Bookstore.

Shoot # 10: August

In-between showers and battling through a howling wind I found my way to our next shoot. I managed to get from my car to the shoot with all my gear in-between showers, so that was pretty neat. I loved this location, an absolute treasure trove, now discovered never to be forgotten – I had always walked past. However, I fear I will never be able to walk straight past again, without nipping in to check out ‘the inside’. My ‘Calendar Girls Companions’ were already there waiting for me and we set up quickly and chatted whilst we waited for today’s beautiful model.

We tested the set with the model fully clothed and, happy it was looking just right, Miss August, aka Penny settled into the pose and, I reckon, showed us the best legs in Kerikeri.  This was an interesting shoot, whilst we thought we had every little area covered that should be covered with each photo this was not the case! It was a tiny space and getting the angle right was a little awkward. Penny was gorgeous and patient with us and once we sorted out our set we got a lovely image pretty quickly. With many thanks to this ‘month’s’ sponsor and location and, of course, to our beautiful model.

Job done then, and it being Friday night I felt that us 3 ladies deserved a glass of wine, so we popped down to the relatively new buzzing venue in town, Ferment. The wine was delicious and it was great to see folk from our community of all different ages popping in for a quick end of week wind down before heading off home to a warm fire.

This shoot will count for the competition so make note of where it was taken.
