Shoot # 9 – Wow! Two-thirds of the way through, just 3 more shoots to go. It’s co-incidental that we have had January, February and March all one after the other – don’t for a moment think we have been THAT organised! After this we will be jumping to August. And just to confuse matters, we’re probably switching January and July!
This is the shoot of the Calendar for the Play ‘Calendar Girls’, being put on by Stage Door Theatre Company this August. A donation from the proceeds of the sale of the calendar will go to NZ Child Cancer Foundation, and this is also a great way of celebrating the ladies in our community. Each month is sponsored by a local business and we thank them for their support. Most, but not all, of our models also appear in the Play. The sponsor for this month is Puttsgreen Florist.
With each ‘month’ that we photograph I’ll be producing a blog. The months will be in the order of either the availability of the shoot location or the model. Today’s shoot is in the competition for two passes – so take note!
Calendar Girls

Shoot # 9: March
The owner of today’s location and I got together a few days before the shoot to consider a setting that would be fitting for this particular image. When I arrived just before closing time, I was so impressed at the extra time and effort Wendy had put into making the set look just perfect – thank you!!
Our only problem was that the shot was taking place in the window. I don’t think our model would appreciate being on view to Kerikeri, and an added problem was the camper van and occupant parked right outside the premises – door wide open watching the proceedings as we prepped for the shoot.
I bought along a backdrop and we had decided to ‘black’ the windows out. The wind (today was the day of the tornados) wasn’t quite agreeing with us but we did a pretty good job. Les arrived and gently asked ‘campervan-man’ if he wouldn’t mind just moving along to the next parking space so that he wasn’t right in the middle of the shoot. I’m pleased to say he was very obliging.
Trudie came along as a second pair of eyes and the shot got underway. Whilst the shot was pretty quick as the setting was already in place, our lovely model was quite particular and we took a few shots before we got one that she was happy with – which, of course, is very important!!
It’s fitting that our March model was also a Piscean!
