Calendar Girls: Shoot # 3 – May

Greenfingers for gardening…

Viv – MAY

Introduction, a blog by Flash Gordon Photography

Shoot # 3 – in case you’ve not yet starting following our blogs, this is the shoot of the Calendar for the Play ‘Calendar Girls’, being put on by Stage Door Theatre Company this August.   A donation from the proceeds of the sale of the calendar will go to NZ Child Cancer Foundation, and this is also a great way of celebrating the ladies in our community.   Each month is sponsored by a local business and we thank them for their support.   Most, but not all, of our models also appear in the Play.   This month’s sponsor is LJ Hooker, Kerikeri.

It’s a bit of a journey around the Bay of Islands, so please do have a go at guessing where each shot is taken.

We’re having a competition. The first person to correctly guess the venue of every image that is taken in a public setting will win two passes to the show. Post your list to the facebook page when we have completed the blogs – don’t worry we will remind you!!

Shoot # 3: May

This morning’s shot was gardening.   The previous night was a full moon – my dogs celebrated by adopting wolf mode and howled most of the night.   Not one to be left out, my darling husband joined them, snoring and snorting his way through the night.   Little sleep for me and I roused this morning with a ‘not enough sleep’ headache.   Arriving for the shoot (ten minutes late – everything takes longer with a headache), we had decided on a typical kiwi garden shot – on the ride-on mower.   As usual, we gave the shot a test run, positioned the mower and were joined by the dogs and the cat who it seemed, were determined to get in on the act.   No black pussies in laps in my shoots!!   Well, not this one anyway, we can save that for another day.   I don’t think our model would have thanked me either.

Our vivacious model arrived in her bear ‘onesey’, (or should I say bare onesey?).   I was so impressed the all our models (so far) had read the instructions – no bras or tight clothes – evening make up, brown or red lipstick!!    Just as an aside, I want to say that I love dogs.   They can have a complete determination which leaves you in no doubt as to where the saying ‘like a dog with a bone’ comes from.   For example, they were hell bent on showing us that our role was actually to throw balls for them (not to play with cameras and mowers!).  They’re pretty good at it as they follow you around and drop their ball at your feet and wait (doggedly) until you pick it up.    I thought if I ignored them they would ignore me – who was I kidding!!!

Our model was indeed Viv-acious, wonderfully at ease and a pleasure to work with.  Happy we had got the shot we moved off to one side and I glanced back.  Actually I liked this angle so much more!!  A few clicks and another month in the bag.   Thank you Viv.  You are gorgeous.
